Good nutrition is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Combined with physical activity, your diet can help you maintain a healthy weight and reduce your risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer.
Food is essential for our bodies to function properly while also protecting and fighting against infections. The earlier a person starts to eat a healthy and balanced diet, the more he or she will stay healthy.
Hele Mai ʻAi: Come Eat
Hele Mai ‘Ai (Come Eat) is our three week basic nutrition class that gives you the necessary tools to make healthy food choices. This class was created in conjunction with the Hawaii State Department of Health and visually enhanced by the staff of Hui Mālama Ola Nā ‘Ōiwi.
The course consists of three class sessions, each two hours long. The class meets once a week for three weeks, and covers seven different modules utilizing a standardized curriculum. The class uses powerful visuals to show the fat, salt and sugar amounts in our island’s typical diet (including fast foods and traditional Hawaiian foods.)
