Grow Your Own Laʻau

Are you interested in learning how to grow your own laʻau? Wondering where to start? Come join Hui Mālama Ola Nā ʻŌiwi for the upcoming Grow Your Own Laʻau classes. Participants will learn about propagation, cultivation, pest and disease, harvesting, agroforestry, and health properties of five local plants: kaukama, koʻo koʻolau, ʻolena, māmaki, and lūkini. Participants will have a hands-on experience mixing soil, planting laʻau, and learning how to maintain and harvest the plants once they’re ready.

One student said that the knowledge they gained from the Grow Your Own Laʻau class was “useful and practical,” while another loved how the class was hands-on and let the participants really get a feel for what it’s like to “play with dirt.” Join the ʻohana of people growing laʻau across the island! Sign-up online at hmono.org/class or call (808) 969-9220.
