HILO, HI – October 4, 2019 – Hui Mālama Ola Nā ʿŌiwi (Hui Mālama) is pleased to announce a two-year grant award of $307,000 from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) Community Grant. This grant award supports the Uplifting the Health of the Hawaiian Nation by Perpetuating Culture and Strengthening Identity Project. The goal of this project is to provide pathways and introduce the basics of various cultural practices.
The introductory classes include Healthy Hāpai Training Workshops; Hoʿoponopono Training Workshops; Grow Your Own Lāʿau (Community Garden Training); Level II Lāʿau Lapaʿau Training Workshops (Herbal Healing Medicine); Lomilomi Training Workshops; and Traditional Hawaiian games of the Makahiki season.
Hui Mālama is dedicated to uplifting the health of the Hawaiian Nation by sharing the knowledge of Native Hawaiian cultural values, beliefs, and history. By providing these workshops Hui Mālama will foster opportunities to spread awareness for and encourage the preservation of traditional healing.
With grants like the OHA Community Grant, Hui Mālama is able to develop and expand services to continue helping the community. Current services include:

• Diabetes, Hypertension, and Nutrition Classes
• Exercise & Fitness classes
• Healthy Hāpai Prenatal Program
• Health Resource Referrals
• Medical Services
• Specialty Transportation
• Support Groups
• Traditional Hawaiian Health classes and workshops.
